How To: DJI Spark with iPad Mini and Controller
If you own a DJI Spark, or considering buying one — here’s a little tip: you can use an iPad Mini to fly your drone.
This is really useful because the iPad has much bigger screen than a phone. That gives you more room for controls and the DJI app is less crowded. The iPad also has a bigger battery, and extra memory to store the videos and photos you capture from your drone. You can also find good deals on the iPad Mini 2.
There’s two ways to fly with an iPad. You can either connect an iPad or iPad Mini 2,3 or 4 directly to the drone. You can also fly with an iPad Mini inside the remote controller available for the Spark, which is available separately for $150 at DJI.com. We recommend buying the remote since it unlocks tons more power and functionality from your Spark.
Pairing an iPad Mini directly to Spark
Step 1) If you’re flying without a remote, it’s easy to setup an iPad Mini with your Spark. First, make sure you download the DJI GO 4 App from the App Store.
Step 2) Now open up your wifi settings in your iPad, and select the network called “Spark-” with a few numbers at the end
If you need the password for the DJI Spark wifi, you can find it either on the inside of the Spark, or on the side of the case it came with!
Using iPad Mini with Spark Remote
If you’re using the controller, the process is slightly different. Your iPad Mini will connect to the remote using wifi, while the remote communicates directly to the drone.
Step 1) First, insert your iPad Mini into the remote.
The trick is to first insert one side and then slowly push the opposite end into the remote.
Step 2) Pair the remote to DJI Spark
If you haven’t done it already with your phone, you need to pair your remote to the DJI Spark. The quickest way: first power on the drone, then long press and hold the power button of the Spark for 2 seconds until you hear 1 beep.
Step 3) Put remote in pairing mode
On the remote, press and hold the pause, Fn, and Control button (directly under the camera button on top of remote)
The remote will keep beeping while it pairs. When the remote stops beeping, and the front lights on the Spark are green — you’re good to go!
